Teaching Students How To Create A Blog

I have begun my GAME Plan for gaining knowledge of creating a blog for my students to access and use. I am beginning by talking with other teacher’s that have created student blogs.

I have begun to take action by having discussions with other teachers and people I know that love to blog to find out what they like about it and what has been their experience when using this technology with students. Through a recommendation from Jacqueline, I have started to investigate the website gaggle.com. She said she used it for a blog for her class. She had students create and maintain their own page.

I still need to research a couple of other blog building sites, to see how teacher/student friendly they are. And, then I want to compare the sites, to see which one will meet my needs the best. Once, I have finished my research, I will create a concept map to lay out the blog I will create this, so I have a map of what I plan to build at the site and also as a tool that will be introduced to students during their lesson. Iplan to build a blog using the chosen website and then capturing my steps through a website titled http://www.screentoaster.com/.

  1. Jodie,

What an awesome idea of creating a screen cast to use with you lesson on blogging. I may just have to borrow your idea. I am also looking to start a blog with my students. I am thinking about using as a way to discuss the books we read in class. Also, my students and share their thoughts on the book and make suggestions on what to read next. Good luck with building your blog.

  2. Jodie,

I have to agree with Victoria, a screen cast would be awesome to use in order to teach students how to blog. It would also be useful to share with parents on how a blog works so that they can assist their child when necessary.

Thanks for the idea! I was just thinking of how I would introduce what a blog is and how it works to parents!
